THE BCC TRADITION CONTINUES….
Kevin Roy and Teresa Cleland win CNY Majors, Dan McCarthy plays in US Open
Kevin Roy:
In early June, Kevin Roy captured his first Post-Standard Men’s Amateur. Kevin earned his victory by holding off charges from several competitors, including fellow BCC Member Bill Moore, who began the final round a single shot behind Roy. Determined to capture his first Post-Standard title, Kevin battled to a 4 stroke victory over Moore and Frank Plata.
A few weeks later at the end of June, Kevin set his sights on the 2nd Major of the CNY golfing season, the Gerry Ashe Memorial. With confidence from his recent victory, Kevin fulfilled his goal and won The Ashe. Finishing second to Kevin in the Ashe was once again a familiar opponent, our own Bill Moore. Also in the field, defending his 2009 Gerry Ashe title, was Bellevue’s Kevin Vandenberg.
With the Syracuse District Amateur looming in early August, Kevin Roy’s victories in the Post-Standard and Gerry Ashe have given him the opportunity to become only the second golfer to win all 3 CNY majors in the same year. That feat was accomplished once before, in 2006 by someone that Kevin knows fairly well…his dad, Jim Roy.
Teresa Cleland:
In mid July, Teresa Cleland dominated the 2010 Post-Standard Women’s Amateur Golf Tournament. Her strong, consistent performance at Cortland Country Club and The Pompey Club, produced under par rounds of golf for both days of the event. The result was an impressive 7 stroke victory.
This was Teresa’s 2nd straight Post-Standard victory. Teresa’s 2010 victory put her in rare company joining Walt Knych as the only other five-time winner, man or woman, of the Post-Standard.
As we have all read in the paper and observed with our own eyes (Teresa can faithfully be seen at the BCC range or practice greens), the formula to T’s success and accomplishments is three fold; dedication, hard work and love of the game.
We say congratulations and we wish the best of luck to Teresa on the rest of her 2010 season.
Dan McCarthy:
In the 2010 US Open held at historic Pebble Beach, Bellevue was proudly represented by Dan McCarthy.
Dan earned his way into this prestigious event that is one of the 4 Major Championships on the PGA Tour, by finishing second at the US Open sectional qualifier in New Jersey earlier this year. During the 2 day qualifier, Dan fired back to back rounds of 70, for a 4-under-par total of 140, on the Canoe Brook Country Club’s North Course.
With local roots tracing back to CBA and Le Moyne, we at BCC are very proud to call Dan one of our fellow members and congratulate him on this outstanding accomplishment. We wish him much success in his continuing career.

Bellevue to share one of our Champions
with the 2010 PGA Champions Tour
Every once in a while, you hear news about someone that just makes you feel good. No matter how well you know that individual. They may be one of your closest friends, a casual acquaintance, or simply someone you know by name only. This was the case for all of Bellevue Country Club upon learning of Jim Roy’s recent accomplishment of earning a full exemption on the 2010 PGA Champions Tour. It truly is a “feel good moment”.
It is not just his accomplishment that makes you feel good, but how Jim battled to gain his exemption even further demonstrates the desire used to reach his goal. During the final four round qualifying event, Jim opened the first two rounds with a 68 and 65 which placed him in 2nd place. His third round 73 moved him to 16th place. On the final day, he fired a 66 that moved him into a three-way tie for the 5th and final spot. Then, on the first playoff hole, Jim hit three great golf shots, including a 6-footer for birdie to win the playoff and earn his exemption and tour card.
Many of us have witnessed firsthand the countless hours Jim has dedicated at the driving range and practice green. We are certain that this is only a small glimpse into the work and commitment that has led to Jim’s prominence. During the past few weeks, much has been written both locally and nationally, regarding Jim Roy’s achievement. The many stories chronicle his golfing journey and successes. But when quoted in the stories, rather than speak about him, Jim put the focus on the support that he has received from his family and those closest to him. Jim speaks humbly and with great appreciation about the opportunity he has earned.
To Jim, Cheryl, Kyle, Kevin and Lauren, from all of us at Bellevue Country Club; the Board of Directors, Management, Staff and Membership, we want to say CONGRATULATIONS. We hope your journey in 2010 is filled with much success and good health. However, you may have to forgive us if we are not so humble, because we will be watching and rooting with great pride for one of Bellevue’s Champions.
Congratulations again Jim and we wish you all the best.
Bellevue's Kevin VandenBerg
captures 2009 SDGA Player of the Year Honor
Congratulations to Kevin Vandenberg on winning the 2009 Syracuse District Golf Association Player of the Year title. In just his second year of competing in the SDGA, Kevin adds his SDGA Player of the Year title to his many other prestigious amateur titles and victories from Michigan.
Kevin was pursued during the year by several fellow BCC members. Finishing 2nd was Kevin Roy, followed in 3rd by Jim Roy and rounding out the top in 4th place, was Bill Moore Jr. Many other BCC members represented themselves well throughout the 2009 SDGA.
Congratulations again to you Kevin Vandenberg. We wish you luck in 2010 as you and your fellow Bellevue members playing in the SDGA continue to represent BCC and our rich golfing tradition.
